Week one of the playoffs… One down, Four to go..
The dressing room was full, it was an assembly of all 17 of the very best 7 and 8 year olds to ever dawn the teal, silver and black (for the first game all year).

The anticipation of the playoff game against our practice partners was too much to handle. Coach Bryan gave a speech that would cement his place in history among the likes of Churchill, Lincoln, Kennedy, Roosevelt and King Jr. I would be lying if I did say I shed a tear witnessing the sheer greatness of the moment….

With our resident cheerleader (JP) missing in action, Coach Bryan outdid himself by taking over and leading a pregame cheer like no other. My great great grand children will remember where they were the day they heard about the pregame cheer Coach Bryan led on that cold February afternoon in 2014. (I think TMZ has reported that a screenplay is in the works)

The Sharks filed on to the ice for the pregame warm up and one last pep talk. Then just like that, the game began. Players skated fast and furious, goalies were making huge saves and with 2 minutes to go in period 1 Max picked up a puck that was kept in the Pens zone by Lydia and found the back of the net.

The Second period was much like first. A penalty at the 7 minute mark to one of the Penguins players gave the Sharks an important powerplay opportunity. A Powerplay unit was assembled within 30 seconds of the penalty, Max, Zach, Kalib, Lydia and Bryson went to work. The Penguins shut down every scoring chance for 1:59 seconds of the Powerplay. But just as the penalty was set to expire, Kalib found the back of the net over Kohen’s left shoulder, giving the Sharks an insurance marker.

The Third Period saw the Penguins turn up the tempo and make it a one goal game at the 11 minute mark courtesy of Ashton Lovell, his twin brother Kaiden and Carson May. The game was tense and with about 8 minutes to go the tension was broke by Max when he scored an unassisted goal. Colin would go on to score his first goal of the playoffs by chasing down an iced puck before it could cross the goal line and threw it at the net. Going to show you that shooting is never a bad idea.

The first game ended 4-1, but the sediment in the Sharks dressing room after the game was “This series is far from over!” Our next game is at 11:00 am against a very motivated Penguins team, if we are to win this series we need to bring 110%. Until then..

See ya at the Rink,
