Big Team Black Win!
Game 2 of the Playoffs was and exciting example of good goaltending, solid defence and and powerful offence out scoring the opposition 8-3!
Period 1 started with all the excitement of a team ready to work hard and have fun just like the last game ended! Our boys poured on the offensive pressure early in the period and didn't let up! Early in the game, players like Porter and Joey showed they were going to fight for the puck and get it down the ice, while our defence parings of Carson K/Ethan and Carson C/Dylan covered the blue line well to keep the puck in the offensive zone at every opportunity! All this created constant pressure and the goals quickly followed! Gabe opened the scoring at 9:10 with and assist from Aiden. Roman did his part making saves at the right time to keep the momentum going! Then at 2:38, Joey Smith got his first goal of the season to make a 2-0 game! This was great to see as Joey has been playing stronger every game of the year and it was only a matter of time that he got one in. Shortly after that Dom went on a rush from the blue-line scoring top shelf! But the first period continued with strong pressure as Dom added a second goal after Ethan made a great move to keep the puck inside the blue-line to make it a 4-0 game. By far this was one of our best first periods of the year.
The 2nd Period saw an intense game of back and forth play as the opposition tried to mount a comeback! Roman made a big glove save at 10:10 during some heavy pressure and then got lucky as a shot rang of his right post a couple minutes later! Team Yellow was working hard and not out of the game by any means. Then Yellow got on the board with a long high shot from the right wing at 4:40 and then added a second goal minutes later on a sharp angled shot. But our boys didn't panic and quickly went back to work as Dom tallied another goal with an assist from Ethan.
The 3rd was just as exciting as we traded goals when Gabe scored unassisted and then Yellow broke in on a 2 on 0 making a nice pass from left to right on our sprawling goalie. This made it 5-3. After that though our team shut the door on the opposition as Roman hugged tight to his post at 6:50 holding off the drive to tie the game and Joey went hard to the net at 5:26 to get his second goal of the game making it 6-3! The remainder of the period saw everyone do their part to hold the lead as our forwards did a great job back checking to help out their Defence and add to it as Dom potted two more goals!
Team Black played an incredible game today! Joey Smith was named Player of the Game as he scored his first 2 goals of the year and was an integral part of both offensive and defensive play! Everyone deserves praise for this win today! Hunter and Porter played hard as they battled for the puck on the boards, Carson C. continued to make very smart plays on the blue line, Dylan, Carson K, and Ethan made some great plays in front of Roman, Aiden showed he can back-check to thwart breakaways, and both Gabe and Dom continued to put points on the board.
Team Black now has a 1-1 record to start the Playoffs putting us in 2nd place behind Team Red! The boys built on a very strong first game and played hard to get our first win of the playoffs! Great work!
