Second Win of the Playoffs!
Today was a great team effort for our boys against a team that blanked us the last game we played them in the regular season. Everyone stepped up today with steady pressure on the puck in both the defensive and offensive zones!
The 1st Period started off with some very good offensive pressure as we moved the puck well into the zone and held the blue line. Then at 10:15 Aiden opened the scoring with an assist from Gabe. It was the kind of start we needed! The pressure continued as most of the period was spent in the opposition's end with only a couple of chances going towards our net. Dylan made a great back check on a break, using his stick well to knock the puck away! He would make of number of great plays back checking throughout the game. Then at 4:32 remining on the clock Team white got their only goal of the game with a scramble in front of the net, the goalie was screened and the puck trickled over the line. But that didn't phase the team and a minute or so later Gabe put us up 2-1 with assists from Ethan and Aiden! It was a goal scored as a result of a full line effort!
Period 2 was a steady stream of back and forth opportunities! Neither team seamed to have the advantage as our defencemen Carson C., Dylan and Brady did a great job of blocking out their offence and Team White's goalie made a number of good saves to keep the game close. It was not until 2:40 left in the second period that Dom received the puck from Brady in our D-zone and broke out through centre all alone shooting the puck high glove side to make it 3-1. Then less than a minute later, Carson C., assisted on Dom's second goal breaking out much like the previous shift as he again shot high hitting the goaltender's shoulder bouncing into the net? It was a exciting way to close the period.
The 3rd Period started with a 4-1 lead. The opposition was showing signs of frustration and fatigue through the first half of the frame. However White jumped on a couple of lapses of concentration and made a couple of dangerous rushes on our net. Roman had been fortunate through much of the second period as the team held off the other team with strong puck pressure and great back checking, but around the 13 minute mark White had heavy pressure in our end when a high shot went off Roman's mask bouncing free in front of the net and Dylan made a great dive to clear the puck! Then again near the 11 minute mark White took off on a break away from their own blue line, but Roman stonewalled the shooter down low with a big left pad save! Off that stop our boys stormed the other way scoring the 5th goal of the game at 11:03! The remainder of the period saw our entire team work hard to maintain pressure, back check as a unit and hold the lead!
Dylan was awarded Player of the Game honours today for his great job back checking and showing such heart! Joey again did a fabulous job digging the puck off the boards and passing it out to the centres. Hunter and Ethan were constantly in the offensive zone pouring on the pressure and Roman made timely saves to hold the lead! It was another great game for Team Black!
Team Black now sits alone in 2nd place with a 2-1-0 record with 4 points. Next game we face Team Orange on February 1st at 9:20am.
There will be NO Ice-time this Friday.
