Big Win vs Blue!
Team Black had a great effort today vs Team Blue! Our boys went out hungry for a win and worked hard from the first whistle to the final buzzer!
Period 1 began with energy and a strong forecheck! Our defencemen did a great job of fighting for the puck and clearing the zone. We traded chances with the opposition until 5:28 when a long low shot along the ice beat Blue's goalie on the far side! We had the lead, but not for long as Blue came back at 2:49 remaining with a high shot that Roman took to the chest but fell to the line and barely crossed then line. Tie game. This however didn't phase the team as they went straight back to work finishing the period with the same energy they started with!
The 2nd Period saw Team Blue pour on the pressure, but Black stayed with them at every attempt. Roman made a couple of good saves as we poured on pressure ourselves looking to take the lead. Then at 9:55, Gabe got his second goal with assists from Aiden and Porter! Less than a minute later Dom got on the scoreboard to make it a two goal lead at 8:59! The team now had the lead and settled into a strong defensive game back checking when blue broke in and having very active sticks from our D. The boys worked hard for the remainder of the period as the held the lead.
Going into the 3rd, everyone knew what had to be done. They played hard on every shift. They worked the boards. they cleared the zone and poured on the pressure at every opportunity! At 13:41, Roman was called for tripping as he poke checked a blue player pushing to tie the game. Down by one man, our boys set out to clear the puck and left the opposition with no scoring chances on their power play. The penalty was killed off with everybody working to hold the lead! The remainder of the third was a fine example of teamwork. Forwards like Porter, Aiden and Joey did a fabulous job of back checking, While Ethan, Bradey and Dylan continually cleared our zone and forced play back into the offensive zone! Around the 2 minute mark, Blue pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game, but Black was not giving up the lead. Everyone collsed to the net, cleared the front of the net and Roman battled to cover the puck! It was a great win!
Everyone deserved player of the game today! Porter was given the honour as he symbolized the work ethic that won the game today!
Great Job team Black in working together for the win!
