Another Great Tournament
Chatham Black Kings played in the Frank Dymock Memorial Tournament over the weekend.

The tournament didn't start quite like we had hoped as we dropped a heartbreaker to a solid Wallaceburg team 2 to 1. JP Lemak scored on a pass from Dom St Amand in the second period to bring us within a goal. Unfortunately Wallaceburgs goalie shut us down the rest of the way. Derek Walker did a great job in net to keep the game close. Other notable contributors were Brady Marks, Aidan Davidson and Kaleb Wilson earned the three stars of the game.
Game 2 was a hard fought game vs South Kent. The boys squeaked out a 4 to3 win to keep us alive in the tourney. Dom St Amand netted a hat trick with 1 assist while Aiden Venhuizen chipped in with a goal and 1 assist. Brady Marks, Ty French each handed out 2 assists each. Derek Walker played another great game in net.
Game 3 we were in tough against a Newmarket team that had not lost a game all year. We jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead in the first on 2 goals by Dom St Amand. Newmarket quickly responded with 2 of their own to end the first. Jacob Fenn got us started in the second when he stole the puck from the other teams best player spun around and fired a beauty shot. Followed quickly by an end to end rush from Brady Marks that put us up by 2 again. Newmarket was able to strike back with another goal to close out the second. The third period saw the boys play some of the best hockey I have seen them play all year. Dom St Amand got on a roll and scored 3 consecutive goals to give us a big 4 goal lead with just a few minutes to go. Newmarket was able to score 2 more late but Derek Walker shut the door on any chance of a comeback. Ethan Crow, Aidan Davidson, Mike McGilvery and Devon Homeniuk tallied assists. Player of the game honours went to the entire team as it was the ultimate team effort.
Game 4 were the semi finals vs a very strong Thorold team. The first was un eventful. Thorold jumped out to a 1 to 0 lead in the second. Derek again did an awesome job keeping us in the game. The third was fast and furious but neither team could score until Dom squeaked one past the Thorold goalie. Overtime had many close calls but still no scoring. The final tie breaker was a shootout where Derek Walker stood on his head and stopped all three shooters cold. JP took our first shoot but was stoned by their goalie. Brady shot second and had the goalie beat but unfortunately barely missed the net. The final shooter was Dom who put a beauty move on the goalie and fired it with all he had to give us the very emotional win. Derek received player of the game.
The finals had us matched up again versus that tough Newmarket team. We jumped out to a quick one goal lead as Dom scored on a passes from Owen Fisher and Jacob Fenn. Newmarket tied the score in the second. The third started with Newmarket taking a one goal lead. Dom St Amand tied the score two minutes later with a bullet shot on a pass from Zack Chevalier. A few close calls later we found ourselves slugging it out in overtime again. With 40 seconds to go in the overtime Newmarket found the back of our net to win in a heartbreaking fashion.
Players of the tournament were Ty French,Mike McGilvery and Derek Walker.  I would like to thank the boys for the outstanding effort they put forth. They should be proud of the way they played. I would also like to thank the parents for the support in the stands and in the dressing room. This tournament would not have gone so well without them.
