Game 11 vs Orange.. We need 5 quick ones here..
Playing the Flyers is always a challenge, aside from trying to stop the unstoppable force that is Kurt Countryman, one has to beat an outstanding defensive corps, and then if you do find a way to get past all of that you have to beat an unbelievable goalie.
With all that being said the Red Wings opened the game really strong defensively we were able to keep the game scoreless for almost all of the 1st. Bryce started the scoring for the Flyers with 1:31 left in #1 and then Kurt started his tear 16 seconds later followed by Matthew closing out the period giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
Kurt then made the score 4-0 early in the 2nd. Being on the bench I can tell you, our team wasn't ready to give in. Cam came off the ice, turned to me and said "coach, they're smoking us out there" I responded by saying we need to dig deeper and find another gear. On his next shift he went out and muscled his way through 2 Flyers players to keep the puck in their zone he moved the puck to Zach who immediately found Hunter in front of the net who rarely misses. The Score was now 4-1 and you could sense that breaking the goose egg brought a new level of play from all our kids. The Flyers would score near the end of period 2. 5-1
Hunter went on to score a sweet backhand with 8:43 to go on a turnover created by Williem. Christian then finish off a Bobby Orr type end to end rush by Robert. The score was now 5-3 with just under 7 minutes to go. It looked like momentum was on our side and we were making a game of it. I said "3 quick ones here guys".. Unfortunately Kurt would have nothing to do with a Red Wings comeback and fired 2 quick ones against us. One of the players on the bench said "5 quick ones here guys" I had to laugh and repeat the message. It didn't happen but not for lack of trying. I think it was a good effort by everybody today, we will get another chance to beat these guys in 5 weeks.
The Golden Jersey went to Cam for finding his new level, making the first goal possible. Our next game is against the Kings at 10:40. It is sure to be another barn burner so bring your "A" game. Until then...
