Riverside Families First Tournament: What a weekend of hockey!
It all started in Windsor on Friday at 5:55pm when we played the Riverside Blue Blades,

the game was intense Kalib scored a hatty, we killed a 3 on 5 penalty Brady not only turned away a bunch of high quality scoring chances but stoned one of the blue players on a penalty shot. His outstanding work in the net earned him the player of the game. Then some of us jetted off to Memorial for an 8pm practice, followed up by our playoff game vs the AtoMc Blue on Saturday Morning.

The tournament team reassembled for a 6:05pm game vs. The Amherstburg Tony’s Flying Eyes (strange name, I know..) We started strong and the game was back and forth. We took the lead when Hunter scored for us. Unfortunately we couldn’t hold the flying eyes away from our net, they crashed Brady twice and got a lucky bounce to take a 3-1 win late in the 3rd. The player of the game was Hunter.

By the time our 3rd game came around both us and the Strathroy Red team we were to play were mathematically eliminated so our game was just for pride. Both teams played a fantastic game and we got back to our winning formula. While we didn’t come away with the win, the game could have went either way as we had a few real good looks and it felt like the momentum was on our side. The second goal we scored was text book AtoMc Redwings when Kalib sent a picture perfect long lead pass just out of the reach of 2 Strathroy players to a streaking Hunter for a breakaway and scored.  While that wasn’t the only AtoMc Redwings type play, it stood out to me and for that I rewarded Kalib with the player of the game.

That ended our incredible weekend and while we weren’t successful in getting an extra game, I think we can view this as a successful tournament because I think everyone had fun and we developed our individual skills and team play to new levels.

I want to send out a special thank you to Colin Day (our Novice AP player) for joining us. You continue to look right at home in the Atom Division.
