Games 8 & 9
This weekend, the AE2 Cobras played the Essex Ravens and The Erie North Shore Storm.

This weekend, the AE2 Cobras had a lighter weekend, only playing 2 games. Fortunately for us, both games were in Tilbury! The kids battled hard on both Friday and Sunday and managed to pick up 3 of a possible 4 points this weekend. The cobras had to battle hard, especially on Friday night, coming back from a 3-0 deficit. We already knew that these kids had tremendous drive and heart, and this weekend was another great demonstration of that!!!

Here are some game notes.
Noah "Weapon" Coatsworth played all weekend as Mr.Fraseh was away on vacation. Noah started off slow in the first period against Essex, but managed to turn it on and make some huge saves for us to keep the cobras comeback alive. Noah continues to work hard and is really developing into a great goalie. Noah deserves a huge round of applause for his great work stopping 2 breakaways late in the game against Essex, and ultimately kept the cobras alive. Way to go Weapon!!!
Jayden “the Monster” Baylis played fantastic this weekend. When I needed a defenceman to cover for Memphis, who was also on vacation, Jayden stepped up and did a great job. Jayden is one of the strongest defenceman on the team and never quits. Jayden skates hard every second that he is on the ice. Jayden kept the puck in the offensive zone by playing on the blue line and used the boards well to clear the puck on the defensive end. Awesome work Monster!
Gregory Ansell continues to develop into a great defenseman. Gregory is really acclimating to the role of a defenceman and played his best hockey this past weekend. Gregory kept the puck in the offensive zone and kept many scoring chances alive. On Sunday, Gregory kept the puck from clearing 4 times on one shift that resulted in a goal. Gregory ended the game recording 2 assists. Way to go Gregory!!!!!
Isaac Cook played very well all weekend. Isaac is another defenceman who is coming into his own and learning the role. Isaac plays tough on the ice and was the last man back on quite a few occasions. Isaac cleared the puck well and even skated with it a bit. This tells me that he is becoming more and more comfortable and also believing that he has a lot of skill as a hockey player. Way to go Izzy!!!
Bradley “Oicks” Oickle continues to develop into a fine captain for this team. Off the ice he leads by example when he is attentively listening to the coaches and helping to lead in warm-ups. On the ice, Oicks does a solid job of being a stay at home defenceman. Oicks also did a good job this weekend at keeping the puck in the offensive zone and covering the front of the net in the defensive zone. Way to go Oicks!
Kayden “K-Mart” Lovell did not play Friday, but played a fantastic game Sunday. Sunday may have been the best we have seen K-Mart play. He was smooth in skating, moved the puck well and looked fast out there! Kayden is a strong defenceman and will continue to be an anchor for us on defence!!! Way to go K-Mart!
Mitchell Loveday played his first game with the AE2 cobras on Friday. Mitchell was excellent on the ice and was one of the main players to turn the slow start around. Mitchell skated hard when leaving the defensive zone and played the puck well. Mitchell was part of all 3 goals against the Essex Ravens. Mitchell also played well on a line with Noah and Sean. Way to go Mitchell!
Reese Church skated hard all weekend and was most noticeable when back checking. Reese skated very hard against Essex and played some fantastic defence. On Sunday, Reese turned the table and found his offensive game. Reese scored his first goal of the season on a beauty of a breakaway and also recorded some nice assists. Way to go churchy!
Brayden “Hoss” Dehaas also skated hard all weekend and moved the puck well for us. Brayden is a solid forward and really works hard on his back checking. Brayden’s hard work came to light on Sunday when he scored his first goal of the season on a rocket of a shot. Brayden was so excited after the shot that he was looking for anyone in a cobra uniform to hug! Awesome work Hoss!
Dakota Marchand got better every time she was on the ice. Dakota skated hard on every shift and did a great job in the defensive zone while helping the defence clear the puck. As coach Paul also pointed out, Dakota quite possibly won every faceoff she tool this weekend and has become our most reliable centre when we need to win a face off. Dakota has been such a great addition to this team and the coaches are all very proud of the hard work she has brought to this team. Way to go Dakota! (We still need a nickname for you!!!)
Connor Graham continues to be a hard forward to play against. Connor is playing well in the defensive zone and also moving the puck well. Most notably, Connor also wins a good majority of face offs he takes. This weekend, Connor skated hard every shift and came off the ice in near exhaustion from that hard work. Awesome effort Connor! (we still need a nickname for you too!)
Sean “Rocky” Mallett was strong in the offensive zone and even stronger in the defensive zone. Sean has become one of the fastest, if not the fastest already, skater on the team. Sean skated at full speed all weekend and displayed that speed as he came back hard to back check. Sean is all heart and has more than earned his nickname as Rocky. Sean recorded a goal and some assists this weekend and contributed offensively in a big way. Way to go Rocky!!!
Noah “Sniper” Wilson also had a huge offensive weekend. Noah found himself at the end of beauty of a pass from Mitchell against Essex and a few amazing passes from Ashton as well. Noah skated hard all weekend and may have had the most scoring chances of all forwards this weekend. Noah finished the game on Friday with a goal and an assist and finished the game on Sunday with 2 goals and 6 assists. Noah continues to be very comfortable on a line with Ashton and Rocky. Way to go Noah!!!
Ashton “Dangles” Lovell missed Fridays game but came back on Sunday and played his heart out. Ashton skated hard to back check but was most notable on offense. Ashton scored 5 goals on Sunday and assisted on many of the other goals from that game. Ashton plays well with Sean and Noah and has certainly established himself as an offensive weapon on this team. Way to go Dangles!!!
Absent, and missed this weekend were Kayden “Mr. Fraseh” Fraser and Memphis Peatson.

Overall, the cobras dug deep and played well. This weekend really seemed to show that all of the hard work and effort put forth in dry land and on-ice practices are paying off. Additionally, these kids really look like a team and are playing very well together. I, along with the rest of the coaching staff, are very proud of where we are as a team and where we are heading!

Player of the Game.

Friday October 10 - Mitchell Loveday, 1 goal, 2 assists.

Sunday October 12 - Noah Wilson, 3 goals and 7 assists.

Way to go Cobra’s.
