Bantam AA Cobras travelled to Cobourg this weekend to participate
in the Justin Williams AA Cup finishing second to the host Northumberland
Nighthawks.
The Cobras opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over the Root River Rangers. Austen Venhuizen led the way with 3 goals. Other goal scorers were Connor Roth, Ian Campbell, Caleb Tryon and Trent McFadden. Assists by Notah Hopkins, Cole Tetreault and Aiden Peel.
Game two saw the Cobras face the Hamilton Huskies for a 3-1 victory. Roth scored two goals along with a goal from Venhuizen. Martin Boughner had the only assist.
In the final round robin game the Cobras were shutout against the host Northhumberland Nighthawks 7-0.
The Semi-final had the Cobras face the top seed from Pool B Kanata Blazers. The Cobras came out on top 2-1 with goals from Roth and Venhuizen. Assists by Boughner and Hopkins.
The Championship final was a rematch with the Nighthawks. Both teams played a close hard fought game with the score 1-0 after two periods. However the Cobras were not able to solve the tight checking Nighthawks and lost 3-0.
