Travis Winkworth brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for the game to the Kent Cobras U12 team.

Travis played junior hockey with both the Leamington Flyers and the Chatham Jr. Maroons in the WOHL and GOJHL. Known as a hardworking, team-first player, he contributed steadily on both sides of the puck throughout his junior career. He continues to stay connected to the game as a current member of the Tilbury Bluebirds in the OSHL, where he enjoys the competitive side of the sport while continuing to lead by example on and off the ice.

With over 10 years of coaching experience, Travis has worked with players from the grassroots level through to AAA, including:

  • Head Coach – U9 MD

  • Assistant Coach – U9 MD A

  • Assistant Coach – U11 AAA Chatham-Kent Cyclones

  • Power Skating & Skills Clinic Instructor

He also runs power skating and skill development clinics, where he focuses on skating technique, puck handling, shooting, and hockey IQ. His coaching philosophy is rooted in developing the whole player—both on the ice and off it.

As the game becomes faster and more competitive at the U12 level, Travis places a strong emphasis on:

  • Refining Fundamentals – Skating mechanics, edge control, quick starts, and decision-making.

  • Team Play & Communication – Helping players develop chemistry, trust, and a sense of responsibility to their teammates.

  • Confidence & Resilience – Encouraging a growth mindset and creating an environment where players aren’t afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.

  • Engaging Practices – Keeping sessions purposeful, structured, and fun to maintain energy and love for the game.

Having coached many of the players on this team in earlier seasons, Travis brings familiarity, consistency, and insight to the group. His goal is to continue building on that foundation by challenging the players to grow as athletes, teammates, and young people.

Born and raised in the Chatham-Kent hockey community, Travis is proud to give back through coaching—paying forward the support and mentorship he received growing up.

He’s excited for the upcoming season with the Kent Cobras U12 and looks forward to helping each player take their next step.

See you at the rink!
