U18 A Kent Cobras will be working with Colin Roeszler once a week during the season doing off ice training.
Off-ice training is crucial for hockey players because it builds the foundational strength, power, speed, and stamina needed for on-ice performance while also preventing injuries and improving overall coordination.
Through exercises that target key muscle groups and improve agility, players can translate physical gains into explosive movements, better balance, and increased endurance, which are all vital for success on the ice.
Strength and Power Development
- Explosive Movements:
Off-ice exercises, especially those focusing on single-leg strength, build the power needed for powerful strides, strong puck battles, and explosive turns on the ice.
- Foundational Strength:
It's the ideal time to develop the core strength and stability required to withstand the physicality of the game and maintain control during intense moments.
Injury Prevention
- Strengthening Ligaments and Tendons:
By strengthening the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support the joints, players reduce their risk of common hockey-related injuries.
Performance and Endurance
- Improved Agility and Coordination:
Specific off-ice drills enhance a player's agility and coordination, which directly translate to quicker reactions and more fluid movement on the ice.
- Cardiovascular Endurance:
Training can build the stamina needed to maintain peak performance throughout entire shifts and games, allowing players to stay strong from start to finish.
