Kent Minor Hockey Association Executive has approved to submit a request to OMHA for base category reclassification from ‘AA’ to ‘A’ for the 2023-2024 season.
The submission will be presented at the next OMHA meeting April 29th
Kent Minor Hockey has considered a number of factors into the decision for recategorization including population, number of registered players, competitiveness in tournaments and OMHA success over the past number of years. KMHA is looking at the best interest of our association for teams to participate in new opportunities and compete in tournaments outside of the larger centres in the GTA and surrounding areas. This will allow our teams to compete at an appropriate level and allow for a greater potential of success at OMHA championships.
Belle River Minor Hockey Association has also agreed to submit request for reclassification. If approved by OMHA, this decision will align with other ‘AA’ centers within Bluewater (Windsor and Tecumseh) who were recently approved to be reclassified ‘A’, and establish a balanced Bluewater League with the ‘A’ member associations.
Once OMHA has finalized their decision, KMHA will provide updates following the meeting.
We ask that members of our association be patient as we rebuild our program with a focus on creating an environment of enjoyment and competitiveness for all members.
